What I can't figure out is, if these objects reek havoc with planet earth, how does Eretz Yisrael stay neutral? How do we still have water, electricity, etc, if we will? I guess much like "Goshen in the plague of darkness" or like "on Noah's Ark". Anyone have a clue?
Most of the damage comes from the crustal displacement. The reason Jerusalem is the safest place is because that's where the even hashtiyah is - the foundation stone. It's called that because according to our tradition, the earth was created from that rock and outward. Therefore, when the crust begins to slip and slide across the earth's surface, that point and whatever is closest to it will remain in place.
I don't expect us to have electricty or necessarily running water but the Land is covered with natural springs, so there will be sources of clean drinking water. But, even at that, we have access to the Ultimate Source for everything, including water, as the well that traveled with us in the desert can attest.
