It makes sense that we can't get a clearer image since it needs to be mainly hidden until it's nearer to its arrival. Free will must be maintained as long as possible since this will be the last opportunity for people to choose Hashem from love instead of from fear.
These three separate photos below taken (1) from Modiin, (2) from Gush Adumim, and (3) in North Carolina, USA, proves that there is something out there, even if we aren't sure what to call it.
